1980s, slasher horror, occult folklore, urban decay and rural idealisation
a dysfunctional friend group in 1985 - 2001 manchester hew out a life for themselves against the backdrop of a curse persisting from the middle agesact 1. farrier and opiate addict valentine 'tiny' blackmarsh is plagued by past memories of an infanthood spent in the fictional northumberland village of Wrong, a closed community formed around a peat bog. something lives in that wetland that might be traced back to a trial in the 1600s, when it was insisted that a chicken, cow, dog and horse testify in a court of provincial law, the only witnesses to a terrible crime. their inability to answer in english is interpreted as refusal, for surely God would allow the beasts speak just this once, rather than let such an injustice go unpunished?act 2. in the mid-90s, jerome roshan mohana, admist the mad cow disease outbreak, begins uploading short videos of the furnace at his mother's horse crematorium being used to dispose of sick cattle from neighbouring livestock farms to FTP servers. fancying himself a bit of a filmmaker, it gives him an idea

five years before the Anatomy Act of 1832 passes, james cochrane matriculates into edinburgh medical school where he meets naoise รณ broin. when both young men begin to fail as fledgling physicians due to a lack of anatomical knowledge and social capital, james is prepared to do what naoise, initially, dare not in order to learn the inner workings of the human body
